Unite against dementia

Wealden District Council is calling for everyone to unite against dementia during the week when 17 events are taking place across the district.

The Wealden Dementia Action Alliance is celebrating a year since its launch at an event at Hailsham Civic Community Hall, on Tuesday, May 16. There will be speakers and presentations along with information stalls about services available for those living with dementia, and their carers neighbours and family members.

Cllr Claire Dowling, cabinet member for public health at the council said: “Dementia can affect  people at any age, not just the elderly, and the numbers of people diagnosed and impacted by it are rising.

Important to be aware

“It’s incredibly important to be aware and have an understanding of what this condition involves. The very point is that it is possible to live well with dementia.

“As well as celebratig the successes of the Wealden Dementia Action Alliance, there is a series of events taking pace across the district every day of Dementia Awareness Week, from coffee mornings and memory cafes to information sessions and carers support groups.”
