Four young dancers from the Rennie Dance Academy have won through to the finals of a Royal Academy of Dance competition.
They are Amelie Hanson, eight, who lives in London Road, Uckfield, and attends St Philip’s School; Robyn O’Connor, eight, from Cooksbridge, who attends Manor School; Eloise Fossey, eight, from Newick who attends Newick School, and Emma Beesley, eight, from Buxted, who attends Buxted School.
The Sussex heat of the Royal Academy of Dance South East Awards took place at Brighton College on Sunday. The final will be held in May.
The Rennie Dance girls are following in the footsteps of a former pupil at the school Isabella Knights who is now at the Upper Royal Ballet School.
Isabella is quoted in a Royal Academy of Dance press release about the South East Awards. She says: “Six years have passed since competing in the awards. It was my first competition ever and I was very happy to be placed third.
“One of the adjudicators was Lauren Cuthbertson and little did I know then that two years later while in my second year at White Lodge I was to share the stage with her at the Royal Opera House in Swan Lake. I was a little swan.
“I am now in my first year of the Upper Royal Ballet School. So many wonderful things have happened since that very first competition.”
Last year Isabella reached the finals of the Young British Dancer of the Year 2014.
Another Rennie Dance Academy pupil Felicity Chadwick, 13, has taken up a full-time place at the Young Dancers Academy in London, which is a vocational school providing ballet training and academic tuition.
Felicity was interested in going to the school next year but was offered a place immediately she was seen.
She has been dancing with the Rennie Academy since she was three and has also been attending weekend classes at the Central School of Ballet in London for the past 18 months.
