Five things we liked in Uckfield and beyond

Here are five things which caught the eye of UckfieldNews.com over Christmas and the new year.

1. The 2015 nature notes for Uckfield by Manor Park resident, Wendy Tagg. Great photos of wildlife, including a deer wandering up the garden path, as can be seen in this photograph.

Read Wendy’s nature notes and explore her delightful blog.

2. Reading that the Uckfield and District Lions’ Santa Sleigh raised more than £5,300 for charity and good causes – breaking all records. The Santa Sleigh began in 2002 and since then £53,000 has been raised.

3. Seeing a photograph of Blackthorn in bloom in December tweeted by Sussex Wildlife (@SussexWildlife). It usually flowers in March and April.

Blackthorn Winter is a phrase you will often hear country people use. It is because when the blackthorn is in full bloom (usually in spring), there are often very sharp frosts or even snow.

4.  Eight people paid bills online via the Wealden District Council website on Christmas Day

5. In praise of the Lavender Line at Isfield and the fabulous cooked breakfasts in the cafe. A blog by “Diamond Geezer”.
