Fatal crash on Uckfield A22 by-pass claims life of 59yo biker

The biker who died in a crash on the Uckfield by-pass was aged 59 and came from Hertsmonceux.sussex-police-logo

He was in collision with a car and the driver of that vehicle was arrested by police.

The motor-cyclist, who was riding a a blue BMW K1600GT, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of a white Mercedes CLS400 – a 48-year-old man from Hove – was uninjured. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remained in police custody as of 4pm.

No other people were involved in the collision.

A motor-cyclist has died in a crash on the A22 Uckfield by-pass this morning (July 21).

Sussex Police said: “The collision happened around 7.54am between the Bell Lane and Little Horsted roundabouts and involved a car and a motor-cyclist.

“An air ambulance landed, but the man sadly died at the scene.

“Local diversions are in place, but with roadworks in Uckfield town centre, there is serious congestion on all roads and drivers are advised to avoid the area for the rest of the morning if at all possible.”

The Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance was despatched at around 8am.

Bus services have been affected with Seaford and District Buses saying the 10.12am from Uckfield and the 11.02am from East Grinstead are not running.

Update: The road re-opened at lunchtime.
