Drilling work under way on the UCTC field facing Downsview Crescent on the Manor Park Estate, Uckfield

Drilling rigs at work on UCTC site

Drilling work on the Uckfield Community Technology College (UCTC) field facing Downsview Crescent is set to go on for the rest of the week.

Two rigs were at work yesterday (April 4), going down to a depth of 20m to take soil samples.

Ground investigations, such as those being carried out, are used to find out the engineering properties of the soil and rock.

The work comes as the chairman of Uckfield Town Council’s Plans Committee, Cllr Barry Mayhew, revealed in his report to next week’s annual town meeting that expansion of the college is on the cards.

He wrote: “The plans committee has been briefed on the proposals to build new school buildings for Uckfield college and await sight of a full application for this, which is due shortly.”
