Dog sponsored by Uckfield Lions starts advanced training

Rory, a dog sponsored by Uckfield Lions, has begun advanced training as a Canine Partner.

Rory’s future role will be to help a person with complex disabilities but now he will the spend the next five weeks settling into new surroundings and meeting new class mates.

After his advanced training he will be matched with his potential partner and will then be taught specific tasks that will be needed when he starts his job.

Car rally

Uckfield Lions donated £5,000, raised at their 2017 Classic Car Rally, to sponsor the training of Rory through the charity Canine Partners.

In July 2018 they were told that Rory, then eight months old, was progressing well, working steadily and picking up new commands quickly.

On a trip into town he was calm and attentive in a supermarket and not bothered by all the different noises, people and trolleys.

Good causes

Uckfield Lions say they are grateful to people who support their fund-raising events which enable them to support local good causes.

This year’s car rally will be on Sunday, September 29. The Lions Big Fun Day and scarecrow competition will be held on Sunday, June 2.

Stall booking forms and scarecrow competition entry forms can be downloaded from the Lions website or collected from the Lions’ bookshop in Olives Yard.
