About Golden Cross Park
If you are planning a family gathering and looking for somewhere for relatives and friends to stay then Golden Cross Park is only a short drive out of Uckfield, off the A22, and worth considering.
The entrepreneurial Osborn family have, under the auspices of one of their group of companies, designed and built leisure lodges within a new gated development and the luxury accommodation can be booked for one night, or for longer holidays, at a time to suit you.
Each lodge has two bedrooms, a master, and twin-bedded room, so can sleep four. Prices start at £100 a night.
The Selby design, which features in our photographs, favours open plan living with a spacious lounge, kitchen and dining area. Furnishings vary from cabin to cabin.
There’s a bathroom, complete with roll-top bath, and off the master bedroom is a walk-in dressing room and ensuite shower room. There’s a special treat outside too – a private hot tub just for you.
Nicki Osborn who has worked with her husband Martin and three grown-up children to create the park, says the lodges are also perfect for a getaway for locals who don’t want to travel far.
Everything is provided that you could possibly need from bedding and towels to kitchen equipment. There will even be coffee, tea, and milk awaiting you. Then you can either eat out each day or bring your own food for self-catering.
The Osborns added the Golden Cross site to their portfolio about five years ago. It had been a static caravan site since the 60s and needed refurbishment.
The family put in new infrastructure and has been replacing the caravans with the lodges designed and built, unusually, on the back of 30 years experience in the house construction industry, which remains their core business, rather than the caravan industry as would often be seen on similar parks.
Different skills from within the family have been put to good use.
Twenty-one-year-old Jack is a steelworker and built the skid chassis for the lodges. His brother Ryan, 25, is a carpenter and, with his team, built the lodges and installed the fittings.
Their sister Abbie, who is on maternity leave at the moment, looks after sales on the site and also another family business Five Chimneys Eggs.
The guiding lights are parents Martin and Nicki Osborn who are also developing another park at Stone Cross, Pevensey, within a woodland setting and next to a fishing lake, with the lodges and other facilities designed to blend in with the scenery.
Nicki said people come from all over the country to stay at Golden Cross Park because it is a great base from which to explore the area. It is easy to get to Eastbourne and Brighton and close to Glyndebourne too.
But, she says, the lodges would also be ideal for families planning weddings or celebrations, whether for a birthday or Christmas, who are looking for accommodation for their guests.
While thinking about weddings it is also worth noting that the one-bedroom Honeymoon Cottage – again with hot tub outside – is designed for a romantic getaway.
