Chance to visit Uckfield recycling centre
There is chance in Uckfield next week to see what happens to glass, paper plastic bottles, steel cans, aluminium cans and foil collected for recycling.
Wealden Council has a facility on the Bellbrook Estate where recyclable waste is sorted and it will be open to the public on Wednesday from 4pm-7pm.
There will be demonstrations showing how the different items are separated and chance to buy compost made from green waste and cardboard collected from 42,000 households across the district. (Added to site, Friday, July 3, 2009)
 
Consultation begins on Wealden development
Public consultation begins this month on proposals for new housing and business development in Wealden.
Information leaflets will be sent to more than 60,000 homes and exhibitions and drop-in sessions are to be held across the district.
There will be one at Uckfield Civic Centre on Saturday, July 25, from 10am-1pm.
The consultation presents ideas and asks for people's views about the sort of place Wealden should be over the next 20 years, especially where future housing and jobs should go and how many should be provided at different locations.
More information is provided on the Wealden Council website at www.wealden.gov.uk/ldf. This is due to be updated with the latest documents tomorrow and hard copies should be available from Monday (July 6). (Added to site Thursday, July 2, 2009)
 
Chance to bid for council grants money
Organisations in Uckfield seeking a grant from the town council should prepare their bids now.
Application forms for grants for 2010/11 are available and should be completed and returned by Friday, August 28.
Representatives of all the organisations applying for a grant from the town council are invited to a meeting of the general purposes committee on Monday, September 21, at 6.30pm.
The counci has been providing grants to a number of local community groups and voluntary organisations for more than ten years.
Grants awarded for 2009/2010 included £12,500 for Wealden CAB, £300 for Uckfield FM, £3,000 to the carnival and bonfire society, £2,500 to the twinning association and £1,250 to the festival. The preservation society received a grant of £1,000, the Royal British Legion Uckfield branch £750, the Uckfield Singers £600, Lime Aid £200 and the Millington Court Friendship Group £100.

Plans for new homes in Framfield Road
Two new homes could be built in Framfield Road, Uckfield.
Plans have been submitted for a pair of semi-detached houses to be built on land behind numbers 104 and 106. Parking is included.
The proposal from Mr Andrew Denyer was received by Wealden Council on June 17. (Added to site Tuesday, June 30, 2009)
 
Key county roles for Uckfield councillors
Uckfield man Chris Dowliing has been appointed vice-chairman of East Sussex County Council.
Mr Dowling, who represents Framfield and Horam, lives in Hunters Way.
The new chairman of the council is Rupert Simmons from Waldron, near Heathfield.
Uckfield Liberal Democrat Paul Sparks, who lives in Roman Way, is the chairman of the Audit and Best Value Scrutiny Committee. (Added to site Monday, June 29, 2009)
