Date set for trial of Uckfield town councillor and shopkeeper James Anderson

A date has been set for the trial of Uckfield town councillor and shopkeeper James Anderson who has denied sexual offences against teenagers.

Mr Anderson appeared in Lewes Crown Court yesterday where he pleaded not guilty to the following charges:

1. Sexual activity with a girl aged between 13 and 15 – between March 1, 2015, and July 31, 2015 – not reasonably believing she was aged 16 or over.
2. Sexual activity with a girl aged between 13 and 15 – between January 1, 2015, and March 7, 2015 – not reasonably believing she was aged 16 or over.
3. Sexual activity, without consent, with a girl aged 13 or over, between March 8, 2015, and January 13, 2017.
4. Sexual assault on a girl aged between 15 and 16 years between March 8, 2015, and January 13, 2017.
5. Sexual assault on a woman aged between 17 and 18 years between September 1, 2013, and April 1, 2014.
6. Sexual activity with a girl aged between 13 and 15 – between November 1, 2015 and January 31, 2016 – not reasonably believing she was aged 16 or over.

He was given conditional bail and is due to appear at Lewes Crown Court on November 12 for the trial.
