Council requests urgent clearance of recycling ‘bring site’

Wealden Council has requested urgent clearance of accumulating waste at a recycling ‘bring site’ near Tesco in Uckfield.

The alarm was raised by Uckfield resident Owen Hoy who said there were hundreds and hundreds of bottles lined up in front of full and overflowing bins.

He wrote to Wealden yesterday saying he had approached the Tesco customer services desk and was told the area hadn’t been cleared for weeks despite reminders to the council from store management.

Mr Hoy took photographs yesterday afternoon, see one above, and said the site was an eyesore and serious danger to public health.

This morning he wrote again saying the problem had worsened overnight with yet more deposits of bottles on the road surface in front of the bins “so the quicker that they are cleared the better”.

Wealden waste manager Christopher Bone responded to Mr Hoy saying he had reported the situation to the contractor and instructed they arrange urgent clearance of the bins and loose bottles.

“I have also asked they review the frequency they attend this site to ensure it is serviced frequently to prevent this from occurring again.”
