Council looks for new organisation to run youth centre

East Sussex County Council is talking to a partner organisation about the possibility of them taking over the running of the Youth Centre in Downsview Crescent, Uckfield.

A youth club at the centre was closed at the end of December because of “continued budgetary pressures” faced by the council. The centre has now been emptied of furniture.

A county council spokesman said: “We maintain the youth centre on the community college site and have previously run a youth club at the centre.

“Unfortunately, due to the continued budgetary pressures the council is facing, we are not able to continue funding the youth club, which closed at the end of December.

“As a council we are having to focus our increasingly limited resources on the areas of greatest need and in terms of youth services, this means young people and families who need additional help and support.

“We are currently talking to a partner organisation about the possibility of them taking over the running of the building and continuing to offer space for community use.”
