Conversion plan for new Uckfield house

A garage of a house which was only occupied for the first time last year in Hempstead Road may be converted.

An application for the change has been submitted to Wealden District Council for 1 Eaton Close, Hempstead Road, Uckfield.

It is one of four detached houses completed on the site last year.

They were built on the the house and garden of a property known as The Cottage.

The plan shows the garage being converted into a study, with access from the hall, with the rear becoming a storage area.

The application also contains a request for permission to build a new detached garage at the front and to the side of the property.

The walls would have timber weatherboarding and there would cedar shingles on the roof.

Approval was first given in 2015 for the demolition of The Cottage and the construction of a replacement dwelling.

Approved

A year later a further application for three more homes was approved by the planning authority – Wealden District Council.

Last night (January 21) Uckfield Town Council Plans Committee agreed to support the application.

Members felt it would not affect neighbouring properties in Eaton Close, although the applicant’s property might suffer some loss of light and view as a result of the construction of the garage.
