Convent site works under way in Uckfield

Clearance is taking place on the site of the former convent in New Town, Uckfield.

Planning permission has been given to build 14 new homes.convent

The former convent (pictured), home to the Sisters of Mercy, was demolished in 2010. Three homes which were on the site have also gone.

As part of the works, Uckfield Town Council  secured a partnership agreement with the developers to completely repair the potholed Old Timbers Lane, which leads to the Victoria Pleasure Ground.

Old Timbers Lane (pictured before the works) will be the main access to the development, although repairs will cover the whole length of the Lane, which has no known owner.convent

Two houses fronting the main road will be accessed from the High Street. See story here
