More than 120 business people played rounders last week and raised funds for charity at the same time.
The tournament was organised by accountants Simmons Gainsford and contract hire and car leasing company Neva Consultants on Thursday.
All funds raised were to be donated to the Children’s Respite Trust which helps families needing respite services for children with disabilities.
Among those taking part were staff members from Simmons Gainsford, Neva Consultants, TR Fastenings, Peter Taylor Associates, So Legal, CJ Thorne, Pennells Carpets, Dawson Hart, The Highlands Inn, Garrison Roofing, ActionCoach, JS Electrical and Lyons Finance.
The winners, who claimed the title of Best Rounders Team in East Sussex, were CJ Thorne. Runners-up were Neva Consultants.
Hundreds of pounds were raised on the day and donations continue to come in.
James Duggan, partner at Simmons Gainsford said: “I am pleased that in our sixth year the sun shone again for this increasingly popular event, and there appeared to be more than ever in attendance last night – not bad for somethat that one of my partners suggested six years ago and that I thought we may have a handful of people turn up for, at best.
“I now have businesses emailing me in the spring to find out when we are holding the infamous summer rounders event.”
Graham Prince, director at Neva Consultants said: “We were delighted to sponsor this event with Simmons Gainsford.
“This enabled 100% of the monies contributed to be passed directly to the Children’s Respite Charity.
“It was fantastic to see more than 120 people from the local business community supporting this event, which really deonstrate the appetite for social events where different businesses can come together, away from the pressures of the office, and make new acquaintances in a relaxed atmosphere.
“Thank you to Maresfield Cricket Club for producing a delicious barbecue. Congratulations to all eight teams for participating, but in particular Thorne’s for winning the event, even though they beat Neva in the final.
“However the real winner was the Children’s Respite Trust who are delivering such vital support to families within Uckfield and surrounding aras.
“A huge thank you to all of those who participated and supported this year’s tournament and we hope to see you again in 2019.”
