Children come to Uckfield for book award ceremony

Children from 18 primary schools across East Sussex are coming to Uckfield on Wednesday for a ceremony to announce the winner of the East Sussex Children's Book Award 2012.

Five books were nominated for the award and the winning author will be there to collect their prize and meet the pupils.

The books nominated were: Blackout by Robert Swindells, Dead Man's Cove by Lauren St John, The Deeping Secrets by Victor Watson, Gravenhunger by Harriet Goodwin and Magicalamity by Kate Saunders.

More than 1,000 pupils from 52 schools have been reading the books since January and selecting their favourites in the awards.

Schools bringing children to the ceremony include: Alfriston, Battle, Crowborough, Ditchling, Eastbourne, Fletching, Framfield, Hailsham, Hastings, Hellingly, Polegate, St Leonards-on-Sea and Wadhurst.
