More than 30 visitors from the French town of Arques-la-Bataille will be in Uckfield next month for the official signing of a twinning agreement between the two towns.
The ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 11, beginning at noon with a reception in the council chamber at Uckfield Civic Centre for invited guests and French visitors.
Members of the public are invited to join celebrations at 2pm in the Weald Hall at the Civic Centre and watch performances by the Ashdown Singers, Uckfield Concert Brass, Deb's Dancers and local schoolchildren.
The specially-commissioned twinning charter - created by calligrapher Christina Warren from Nutley – is then due to be signed in the hall at 2.30pm.
Links have been growing between Arques and Uckfield over the last few years.
Events last year included Arques teenagers joining an International Youth Camp here, Uckfield youngsters taking part in a week's watersports course in Arques and Uckfield families visiting the Dieppe kite festival.
Last week 23 teenagers took part in an Anglo-French residential course at the Blackboys Youth Hostel.
Treats to look forward to in August include an invitation from Arque for 12 Uckfield youngsters to take part in a week-long course on the theme of Food across Europe and a reciprocal signing of the twinning charter in Arques.
