Buxted Inn owner Jason Bailey treated about 40 members of a dementia group to a seaside outing yesterday.
He invited members of the Know Dementia group which meets at the pub every week to join him on a coach trip to Eastbourne.
While there they enjoyed an early afternoon tea at the Langham Hotel then split up to spend time on their own before the return journey home.
Jason first organised a seaside trip for the group last year and this time he said: “It is now an annual event and a treat for the carers as much as those with dementia.” He also holds a Christmas party for the group.
Peter Calder, who runs the Know Dementia Memory Moments Cafe at the Buxted Inn every Tuesday from 9.30am to 1pm said Jason provides the venue free of charge and subsidises refreshments.
He said the group was growing and thanks to Jason’s support and assistance the benefits could be seen among members. “They are improving in their physical and mental wellbeing. People don’t feel isolated and feel a lot better within themselves.”
Peter also runs a Memory Moments Cafe in Uckfield Civic Centre each Monday from 1.30-4.30pm, and another in Crowborough.
There are also established Know Dementia cafes in Peacehaven, and Ringmer/Lewes, and three more are opening up in Haywards Heath, Newick and Ticehurst/Wadhurst.
