Busy weekend for squash juniors

Members of the Uckfield Junior Squash team were in action at the weekend with a tournament in East Grinstead on Saturday and a fixture against Crowborough.

Leesha Daniells (Under 15 girls) and Finn Holliday (Under 17 Boys) were both involved in the Dunnings Junior Squash Tournament in East Grinstead, writes Stephen Holliday.

Up against many of the top county juniors from Sussex, Kent and Surrey both found it very challenging being among the youngest in their respective categories. On warmer courts than they are used to, both struggled in their first round matches but played much better in the plate events although neither was able to progress on this occasion.

Nevertheless, the experience gained and opportunity to watch some high class junior squash will be useful in the future.

On Sunday afternoon, the Uckfield junior team in Sussex Division 5 was up against Crowborough 2 in an away fixture.

The team consisted of brothers Oliver and Alexander Darlington together with Oliver Southall. All three have improved their games significantly this season and were too strong for their opponents with all running out 3-0 winners.

The three matches were played in tremendous spirit and were well marked/scored by the home team after which the players enjoyed the food and drink provided by Crowborough.

The team now sit comfortably in second place in the league and have every chance of catching the leaders by the end of the season.
