Business closes because of rail strikes

A new Uckfield business has been forced to close for the rest of January because of rail strikes.

Online Coffee next to the bridge over the River Uck has posted a notice in its window saying the ongoing dispute between Southern Rail and respective unions is making it extremely difficult for them to operate and maintain profitability.

The business plans to close for the remainder of January in the hope the dispute will be resolved as soon as possible.

The notice says:

“Dear Customers and Friends,

“The ongoing dispute between Southern Rail and the respective unions is making it extremely difficult for us to operate and maintain profitability.

“We have managed to operate our normal hours since opening throughout the dispute but on strike days and days which have a reduced service (which is most), it is not viable.

“Therefore in the long term interest of our business we have reluctantly decided to close for the remainder of January in the hope that the dispute is resolved as soon as possible.

‘Should the dispute be resolved sooner we will re-open as soon as practically possible.

“We apologise sincerely for any inconvenience and hope you are able to understand why we have made the decision we have. We look forward to re-opening and welcoming everyone back with special offers.

‘Loyalty cards will be honoured with bonus stamps for all.

“Thank you.”
