Burglaries from homes are rising in Wealden

Burglaries from homes are rising in Wealden, Uckfield town councillors were told this week.

Town police officer, Cathy Codling, said a number of schemes were being used to catch the criminals and to prevent the crimes taking place.

Members of the public are encouraged to report anything they think could be suspicious to Sussex Police. “Burglary has such an impact on the victim,” she commented.

PC Codling also told councillors CCTV cameras were a valuable crime-fighting tool and had many uses: they helped prevent crime as criminals know the cameras are there, they could provide supporting evidence and could be used to check the accuracy of people’s statements when they said they were in a certain location.

• Uckfield Town Council has set up a working group to see how neighbourhood plans could be implemented. The plans are part of the new Localism Act and can help point the way to development of the town in the future.
