The Marie Curie Uckfield Fund-raising Group is holding a Blooming Great Tea Party at the town’s leisure centre on Saturday (June 13).
Cakes and beverages will be offered from 9am to noon and from 4pm to 6pm and a picture painted especially for the occasion, by local artist Janet Orpwood, celebrating a quintessential English garden tea party will be on display.
Richard Long chair of the fund-raising group said the picture idea evolved from seeing one of Janet’s bookmark cards at Ridgewood Post Office. “I thought it would be great if Janet could paint a picture for the Marie Curie event, with the addition of creating some bookmarks replicating the painting, which will be on sale during the event.”
He said Janet agreed to do so and then when a frame was needed to enhance the picture Tim Benians, owner of the Uckfield Framing Company, offered to frame it free of charge.
Mr Long said the framed picture looked “marvellous” and it would be on display at the tea party and it was hoped that, in due course, Marie Curie would adopt the picture image on a corporate and national level.
He added; “None of the above could have been possible without the kindness and generosity of Janet Orpwood and Tim Benians. What makes this even more significant is that all this has been achieved from within the local Uckfield community; so on behalf of Marie Curie and personally, our deepest thanks and appreciation.”
