Prizes and certificates will be awarded to 25 of Uckfield’s best child artists during an arts and crafts fair at Uckfield Civic Centre at the weekend.
Their work has been selected from about 480 entries in a competition run by Bridge Arts, which is also organising the fair, and the prizes will be presented at 11am on Saturday, June 16.
Judges met last month to draw up a shortlist of potential winners in age categories from under 5s, to mid-teens.
International children’s author
The first, second, third, and highly commended, artists will receive a certificate and a selection of art-related prizes donated by local poet and artist Audrey Haney, and international children’s author Alan Baker who illustrated the well-loved number one best seller Hairy Tales, and Nursery Crimes by Michael Rosen.
The two-day fair opens its doors next Friday, June 15, at 3pm, with an opening reception for exhibitors, collectors, friends, media and keen shoppers from 7-9pm when there will be music by Uckfield’s Alex (Red) Butler.
Stalls to browse at the fair include painting, photography, textiles, woodblock printing, jewellery, glasswork and more. Entry is free of charge.
On the Saturday, June 16, the fair will be open from 10am-5pm with workshops and creative activities for adults and children – which will involve a small charge – from noon.
The workshops include:
12-12.45pm Embroidery with Beth Power. Cost £3. Stitchscape hoop, 10cm, fabrics and thread will be provided.
