Task days to tackle invasive Himalayan Balsam in Uckfield

Task days are to be undertaken at the Hempstead Meadows Nature Reserve, Uckfield, to tackle the invasive plant Himalayan Balsam.

They are planned for each Saturday morning in June.

The town’s Rotary Club will also hold a task day for its members.

Himalayan Balsam is an “alien invader” and overwhelms native species.

Ecologist Dr Martyn Stenning, chairman of the nature reserve advisory committee, has warned of the potential for a “bumper crop” of plant this summer because the reserve flooded at least once during winter, bringing seeds into the reserve from upstream.

An open day will be held in July.

Nature reserve is just off the High Street
